Synthetic Address Trace Generation for Multiprocessor Systems

چکیده
Abstract – We propose a synthetic address trace generation model which combine the accuracy advantage of trace-driven simulation and the low complexity advantage of discrete event simulation. The model provides flexibility in characterizing the system workload independent of cache structure. The generated address references not only synthesize the temporal and spatial locality behaviorbut also consider the data sharing characteristics of multiprocessor systems.

A Hybrid Approach to Trace Generation for Performance Evaluation of Shared-Bus Multiprocessors
This paper describes a hybrid methodology (based on both actual and synthetic reference streams) to produce traces representing significant complete workloads. By means of a software approach, we generate traces that include both user and kernel references, starting from source traces containing only user references. We consider the aspects of kernel that have a deeper impact on the multiproces...
متن کاملPSnAP: Accurate Synthetic Address Streams through Memory Profiles
Memory address traces are an important information source; they drive memory simulations for performance modeling, systems design and application tuning. For long running applications, the direct use of an address trace is complicated by its size. Previous attempts to reduce address trace size incurred a substantial penalty with respect to trace accuracy. We propose a novel method of memory pro...
متن کاملTechniques for Cache and Memory Simulation Using Address Reference Traces
Simulation using address reference traces is one of the primary methods for the performance evaluation of the memory hierarchy of computer systems. In this paper we survey the techniques used in such a simulation. In both the uniprocessor and shared-memory multiprocessor cases, the issues can be divided into trace collection, trace storage, and trace usage. Trace collection can employ several h...
متن کاملSynthetic Trace Generation for the Internet: An Integrated Model
We develop a synthetic trace generation model that captures two salient features of IP destination address traces that are critical to the performance of Internet forwarding systems. First, the model characterizes temporal locality of the aggregate traffic. Second, it incorporates flows as the result of large files transmitted over high-speed links. We achieve the two goals by integrating the f...

This paper presents Cerberus, an eÆcient system for simulating the execution of shared-memory multiprocessor programs on a uniprocessor workstation. Using EDS (execution driven simulation), it generates address traces which can be used to drive cache simulations on the y, eliminating the large disk space requirements needed by trace les. It is fast because it links the program to be traced toge...
